Military vehicles involved in transport of troops on area roads starting Saturday

News release - Canadian Armed Forces

From August 19-30, 2023, Canadian Army Reserve personnel from 33 Canadian Brigade Group (33 CBG) will conduct convoy operations in and between the Petawawa, Barry’s Bay, Bancroft, Kawartha Lakes, Huntsville and Orillia areas on route to and returning from Meaford, Ontario. Activities will include the transport of troops and equipment during multiple road moves using planned routes on Ontario highways.

This increased military traffic is in support of a major exercise taking place at 4th Canadian Division Training Centre, Meaford. Exercise ARROWHEAD GUARDIAN is the largest Canadian Army Reserve warfighting exercise in several years, with over 800 soldiers from across Ontario participating. They are practicing and demonstrating their capacity to support international stability operations with partners and allies with trained soldiers capable of performing combat operations.

Participating personnel will conduct planned, short stops and longer halts throughout the duration of the exercise, stopping for rest, fuel, and scheduled maintenance.

Members of the public may see military vehicles on the following major roads including Ontario Highways 62, 503, 45, 60, Highways 11 and 26.

All Canadian Army Reserve vehicle operators train regularly and maintain proficiency on convoy drills, navigation, unit and driver discipline, and safe and effective operation of their specific vehicle platforms.

All measures are being taken to ensure minimum inconvenience in these areas during the exercise dates. Members of the public are asked to take extra caution when approaching military vehicles, and are thanked in advance for their understanding and co-operation.
