Modest Changes To Class Sizes Across Ontario

Marginal Increases To Some Elementary, Most High School Classes

Ontario class sizes could be a bit bigger in the next few years.

Ontario’s Education Minister, Stephen Lecce, announced what he called modest changes to current class sizes. He says there won’t be much change come this September however. “I am determined to put our students first and listen to those we serve,” said Minister Lecce. “Today I want to reassure students and their families that this September class sizes will remain effectively the same as last year.”

Amendments to Ontario’s class size regulations are being made for the 2019-2020 season to allow for one additional student per class in grades 4 to 8, while an additional half a student per class will be added to high school-level classes, grades 9 through 12. No changes are expected for students grade 3 and below.
