Near miss for OPP officers heading to a call in Tiny Township

Police say the suspect vehicle was airborne when it cleared the intersection

Two Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers narrowly escaped a collision while heading to a call.

Police say the cruisers were north on County Road 6 approaching the intersection of Concession 11 in Tiny Township late Sunday afternoon. According to provincial police, the officers avoided a collision with a vehicle that was travelling at a high rate of speed while westbound on Concession 11 approaching the stop sign at County Road 6. Police say the vehicle was airborne as it cleared the intersection in front of the cruisers missing them both.

The officers were able to locate the vehicle.

A 32-year-old Tay Township man has been charged with the following:

  • Dangerous operation
  • Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
  • Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

And Further

  • Disobey stop sign – fail to stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act.

The accused was released from police custody and will appear in court on June 15, 2023. As well, the accused faces a 90-day driver’s licence suspension and a 14-day vehicle impound.
