No crime this time, but Barrie Police are looking for the public’s help

Walking The Beat

Barrie Police are getting ready to rewrite the service’s Strategic Plan (2020-2022), an exercise that takes place every three years to take into account changes in the community and policing itself.

Staff Sergeant Val Gates is looking for input from the public on what has been working well, and not so well, in terms of policing in Barrie, ideas for improvement and any concerns you might have.

“You know there’s a lot of things happening in Barrie. We’re talking a lot about safe injection sites. We’ve had the legalization of cannabis. All of these things affect how we police and we want to make sure that we are representing our community well.”

Gates adds it’s an opportunity for Police to check in and see how they’re doing. “Are we doing well, are there things we can improve on? And if we start to see some trends…some overwhelming concerns, it may be something we want to work into the plan.”

Community engagement and involvement is a crucial part of the plan’s development. Staff will be meeting with partner agencies to discuss how they can work together over the next three years to keep the community one of Canada’s safest.
