No new COVID-19 cases in Simcoe Muskoka as provincial caseload addition falls after slight bump

Third time this week the local health unit reported no new cases

The Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU) is reporting no new cases of COVID-19 to close out the workweek. This marks the third time this week that’s happened.

On Monday, the SMDHU reported five new cases of the virus, and three on Thursday. Otherwise, no new cases were reported.

Province-wide, there were 116 cases added to Ontario’s caseload, a number more in line with recent additions. On Thursday, there were 170 cases announced, with a big surge in cases reported in Windsor-Essex; the region has been battling several outbreaks among migrant farm workers and had stepped up testing as a result. It, along with Toronto, Peel, and York Region, are the only health units reporting double-digit additions on Friday.

In arriving at these results, the province ran over 27,000 COVID-19 tests, overshooting its daily testing target by over 11,000. Meanwhile, there were just over 25,000 tests waiting in backlog.
