North Shore Trail consultation invites residents to share feedback on vegetation management plan

A virtual meeting will take place on May 18 at 7 p.m.

News release from City of Barrie

The City of Barrie is looking for feedback on the preferred approach to maintaining the North Shore Trail. City staff will present maintenance options for the North Shore Trail at a virtual meeting on May 18 at 7 p.m. and invite feedback. Participants must register in advance by visiting buildingbarrie.ca/NorthShoreTrail. In addition, an online survey will be open until June 3 to collect public feedback.

The original North Shore Trail Vegetation Management Plan was created in 2011. Staff now have a draft update that, once approved, will be used to implement vegetation maintenance work along the trail system.

Key considerations for the updates include:

  • Implement a maintenance plan to create vigorous long-term tree coverage
  • Invasive species management (garlic mustard, phragmites, dog strangling vine, sumac, etc)
  • Create views to the waterfront for those who use the trail
  • Encourage plant growth to support pollinator and bird habitats
  • Create educational and interpretive signage

Learn more, give your feedback, and register for the meeting at buildingbarrie.ca/NorthShoreTrail. For more information on trails in Barrie visit barrie.ca/trails.
