A Barrie police officer responding to an emergency call sustained minor injuries in a collision with another vehicle.
"On Saturday, July 29, 2023, at 1:30 a.m., a fully marked Barrie Police car was travelling eastbound on Georgian Drive while responding to a priority call with its emergency equipment activated when a motor vehicle turned into it. The driver of the police vehicle sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment. The other involved car contained three occupants and one passenger was taken to hospital for a minor facial injury," police said in a news release.
Investigators determined the cruiser was forced to travel in the westbound lane of Georgian Drive as the other vehicle failed to pull over to the right and come to a stop as other drivers had done. As the cruiser continued eastbound, the vehicle turned into the path of the police vehicle causing damage to the right corner.
Police say the 24-year-old Barrie driver was uncooperative with investigators and was charged with obstruct police and impaired driving.
He has a court date on August 9, 2023.
