One person taken to hospital following downtown Barrie apartment fire

Fire was small in origin

A fire in a third-floor apartment in downtown Barrie was quickly extinguished.

Deputy Fire Chief Carrie Clark told Barrie 360 crews were called to the Five Points around two o’clock Friday afternoon where they found smoke in the hallway of the Simcoe Residential Motel, which is located above the Bourbon bar and restaurant at 31 Bayfield Street.

Clark said the origin of the fire was small and put out with an extinguisher.

The male resident was taken to Royal Victoria Regional Hospital “to get checked out,” according to Clark.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
