OPP investigate death of inmate at Gravenhurst correctional facility

 Members of the Bracebridge Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently investigating a death at a correctional facility in Gravenhurst. 

On December 18, 2022, at approximately 9:50 p.m., Bracebridge OPP officers responded to a report that an inmate suffered significant injuries at the Beaver Creek Correctional Facility in Gravenhurst. The individual was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. 

The deceased has been identified as Leslie MA, 31 years of age, of Alberta. A post-mortem examination is scheduled to take place today to determine the cause of death.

The Muskoka Crime Unit is continuing the investigation under the direction of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of the OPP Forensic Identification Services and in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service.
