OPP handed out over 8,000 tickets during Victoria Day long weekend

Speeding the biggest ticket item on the list, followed by stunt driving charges

Despite provincial requests to avoid unnecessary travel, the OPP spent the long weekend handing out over 8,000 traffic charges.

Over the course of the Victoria Day long weekend, provincial police wrote up 6,913 speeding tickets, along with 301 stunt driving charges. Two hundred and ninety-one seatbelt charges were handed out and 138 distracted driving charges.

Police say there were 128 impaired driving charges laid, related to bot alcohol and drug use, and 92 careless driving charges.

The OPP reports it responded to four separate fatal crashes across the province over the long weekend.
