A tip from a citizen and officers nearby was the perfect combination to nab a suspected impaired driver that provincial police say fled after causing a crash on Highway 400 in Barrie.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt told Barrie 360 that around 1:30 Thursday morning, a citizen called 911 to report a vehicle slammed into a concrete wall on Highway 400.

"The vehicle exited at Mapleview Drive and ended up in a crash with another vehicle," said Schmidt. "Officers happened to be in the area when this call came in. But before they got to the scene, they observed a suspect running across the highway, and after a brief foot chase, they were able to arrest the driver."

A 22-year-old from Etobicoke is facing several charges including impaired driving, refusing a breath sample, obstructing an officer, and failing to remain at the scene of an accident.
