OPP release video of a search for a boy with special needs

The child was missing for six hours but turned up safe

The public often hears about police searches for people who are reported missing. When there is a safe outcome, the public rarely gets to see the happy ending or hear the expressions of relief in the voices of police officers involved in the search.

The Ontario Provincial Police released video of a six-year-old boy with special needs who was located after a six-hour search in a wooded area of Sauble Beach this week.

On the video, the mother’s frantic call to 9-1-1 can be heard.

The child went missing Tuesday night.

The mother tells the dispatcher that she believes her child is in the forest behind their property.

“I can only go so far back in the bush.”

Firefighters and neighbours joined in the search, and the OPP brought out their helicopter and the K9 unit.

The video shows the officers and boy illuminated as police get closer to the child.

He was located in good condition, only about a kilometre from his home.
