Ontario Provincial Police are warning residents and business owners in the Collingwood area about a Zoom scam.
Police say a local resident was contacted through Realtor.ca by someone claiming to be a prospective client.
After exchanging emails, they arranged a Zoom meeting.
During the video call, the suspect claimed there were audio problems and directed the victim to a different Zoom link.
The suspect also provided a file to download.
Shortly after, the victim started getting banking notifications about unauthorized transactions.
Investigators believe the alternate link and downloaded file may have given the suspect access to the victim's computer and online accounts.
The OPP are reminding people to be cautious about clicking links or downloading files, even when they appear to come from a legitimate contact.
