There will not be a second term as Orillia mayor for Don McIsaac.
In a social media post on Thursday, McIsaac confirmed he would not run again.
"Serving as Mayor is not simply a role; it is a responsibility that extends to every hour of every day. It has been, at once, demanding, rewarding, and deeply meaningful," he said on social media.
McIsaac acknowledged that no term of public service is without its challenges.
"While we did not always get everything right, every decision was guided by a sincere commitment to the best interests of the people of Orillia. For the engagement, debate, encouragement, and accountability offered by residents, colleagues, and staff alike, I am profoundly grateful," he stated.
McIsaac said strong communities are built by those willing to serve.
"It has been a true privilege to serve this community. I encourage anyone who feels called to contribute, whether by seeking public office or by volunteering in our neighborhoods and organizations, to step forward," he added.
The mayor said he would look forward to continuing to support Orillia in other ways and to remaining an active and engaged member of the community.
Ontario's next municipal election is on Monday, Oct. 26, 20-26. That's when voters across the province elect mayors, councillors, and school board trustees.
Nominations close on Friday, August 21, 2026, at 2 p.m.
