Orillia Santa Claus parade cancelled

Canadian Tire offered its parking lot at the Orillia Square Mall

Billed as the largest Santa Claus parade north of Toronto, the popular event will not happen in Orillia this year.

Doug Bunker, special events spokesman with the Orillia District Chamber of Commerce, told Barrie 360 they were mulling over an alternative format for the parade, as rules around gatherings would not have allowed people to line the streets.

Canadian Tire offered its parking lot at the Orillia Square Mall. Bunker said floats would have been set up in a way people could have driven by in their vehicles but the health unit still had concerns.

The parade was scheduled for Nov. 15.

Bunker is in talks with the Downtown Orillia Management Board about developing an event with a Christmas theme.
