OSSTF members in Simcoe County to hold one-day strike on March 5th

Strike comes on the same day as OECTA walk out

Members of the Ontario Secondary School Teachers’ Federation (OSSTF) will walk the picket line in Simcoe County on March 5th.

The OSSTF announced today its members will fully withdraw from services at schools in Simcoe County and in Toronto, affecting all public secondary schools. This comes as teachers’ unions and Queen’s Park continue heated negotiations over issues like class size, salary, special education funding, and online learning.

“Almost every day, in the media and in the legislature, we see the Premier and the Minister of Education practically jumping through hoops to avoid answering questions about the government’s agenda of larger class sizes, mandatory e-learning, and fewer supports for our most vulnerable students,” said OSSTF President Harvey Bischof.

The OSSTF walk out comes on the same day the province’s English Catholic teachers’ union plans to hold a mass one-day strike at all school boards including the Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board.
