Pair arrested in connection to Circle K robbery spree in Barrie

Eight holdups in the city since end of May

The Barrie Police Service has made an arrest in connection to a spate of armed holdups at area convenience stores.

Officers responded to reports of an armed robbery of the Circle K on Little Avenue at around 3:30 a.m. Thursday. While police say they were quick to arrive and set up a perimeter, the suspect eluded even the K9 unit.

This armed robbery was the eighth such occurrence since May 30 involving Circle K convenience stores in Barrie. Evidence gathered from all eight led police to zero in on a pair of suspects. A 36-year-old man was arrested at around 11 p.m. Thursday, and now faces eight counts of armed robbery and two of uttering threats, among others. He was jailed overnight and was expected to appear in bail court on Friday.

A 32-year-old woman from Barrie was also arrested and faces eight armed robbery charges. She will appear in court in mid-August to answer her charges.

“I am very proud of the collaborative and professional approach that was undertaken by uniformed officers, investigators, and tactical response of the Barrie Police Service that identified and resulted in the arrest of two people who harmed our community and put lives at risk,” says Deputy Chief Wyllie Allan. “Thankfully, no one was injured by the callous and self-serving actions of the two accused, and I am proud to say that Barrie is a safer place today by policing efforts put forward.”
