Pair charged in connection to downtown Barrie assault and robbery

Woman robbed of her purse, shoes, coat Friday evening

Barrie Police have made a pair of arrests following a violent mugging in the downtown core.

A woman told police she was robbed of her purse, coat, and shoes near Dunlop and Owen Streets around 10:30 Friday evening. The victim suffered a head injury in the process and was hospitalized as a result.

Investigators combed the scene and found some evidence in the alleyway behind 93 Dunlop Street, which, combined with a number of tips from the public, pointed them in the direction of two suspects. Late Tuesday afternoon, a 29-year-old woman and 31-year-old man, both of no fixed address, were taken into custody at an east end home.

The duo are were expected in bail court Wednesday morning, but police add they are wanted in connection to similar offenses in eastern Ontario.
