Public invited to park naming ceremony in honour of Will Dwyer

Dwyer, who died earlier this year at age 96, raised more than $1M for the Terry Fox Foundation

News release from the City of Barrie

The public are invited to the Will Dwyer Park naming ceremony taking place on Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the former Centennial South Park.

The event will begin at 5 p.m. with speeches and a barbecue fundraiser hosted by the Terry Fox Foundation.

William “Will” Dwyer was a Second World War veteran who raised $1.2 million for the Terry Fox Foundation over 41 years. In June 2022, Barrie city council passed a motion to rename Centennial South Park as Will Dwyer Park.

The Terry Fox Foundation is hosting a barbecue fundraiser in honour of Will Dwyer’s legacy and park naming. All are invited to attend free of charge. Donations for the barbecue will go to the Terry Fox Foundation in Will Dwyer’s name and his family’s quest to fundraise $2 million. Fred Fox, Terry Fox’s brother, will be in attendance.
