Grab your eye patch and bandana, and practice your "yaarr's," cause Orillia is going pirate theme.

Pirates descend upon the city tonight with their costumes and ships, kicking off a fun-filled weekend.

All the activities occur at the Downtown waterfront with games, a pirate village, food, music, and tons of stuff for the whole family.

No pirate adventure is complete without someone walking the plank.

The Executive Director for the Orillia District chamber of Commerce, Allan LaFontaine says that people running for municipal and provincial office will take the dive.

"That is the centre of our entire event." he says. "Many people are raising money for the rotary Aqua Theater, so they jump willingly. The plank will be set up, and pirate ships will fire cannons.

The walk the plank happens at 2 pm on Saturday at the Port of Orillia.

In addition to the events, families can also participate in a treasure hunt for a chance to win prizes.

The Chamber also has some tips on how to talk like a pirate by using these phrases.

  • scallywag - an insulting term for an inexperienced pirate
  • old salt - a sailor that has a great deal of experience on the seas
  • Avast ye! - Stop and pay attention!
  • give no quarter - show no mercy
  • hearties - friends and comrades
