Police charge Alberta man with drunk driving following Oro-Medonte collision

Drug-impaired driving charge also laid in Waubaushene

A man from Alberta is facing charges after a crash in Oro-Medonte.

Orillia OPP detachment got the call around 5 p.m. Saturday of a crash in the area of 7th Line and Ridge Road, and officers arrived to find a vehicle that had struck a tree. Police immediately entered into a drunk driving investigation against the man behind the wheel and say the 55-year-old was subsequently arrested.

The man from out-of-province faces a charge of drunk driving and could make an appearance in front of an Orillia courthouse judge in early March.

Meanwhile, a concerned citizen called the OPP to report a possibly impaired driver passing through the Coldwater-area. The call came in around 1 p.m. Sunday. Police patrolled the area but did not immediately locate the vehicle in question. It was eventually spotted in the Waubaushene area and it was pulled over.

After speaking to the driver, police had cause to bring out a drug recognition expert from the Barrie Police Service, which led to the arrest of a 33-year-old Orillia woman. She faces charges including drug-impaired driving and taking a motor vehicle without consent.
