Pride Award Nominees Announced

Barrie 360 Parent Company Among Potential Recipients

Fierté Simcoe Pride is ready to hand out some hardware.

The local pride organization has handed down this year’s list of Pride Award nominees, to be awarded in five categories. A Lifetime Achievement Award will also be presented.

Two people are vying for the Youth of the Year Award; Oliver Balika and Nathan Kup have been nominated. Organizations of the Year include the Gilbert Centre, St. Paul’s United Church and Centre, The Quoir, Bradford Women’s+ Group, and the Wasaga Beach Youth Centre.

The City of Barrie and Town of Innisfil will compete for Community of the year, while five hopefuls find themselves on the list of Person of the Year: Keenan Aylwin, Betony Main, Carl LeMesurier, Jessica Van de Kemp, and John Niles have all been nominated.

Not to brag, but Barrie 360’s parent company, Central Ontario Broadcasting is among the nominees for this year’s Business of the Year Award. It will compete against Torn Pages, Grounded Coffee, HGS Canada, and Express Aid Pharmacy for the award.

A Lifetime Achievement Award will be presented to Rev. Dr. Cheri DiNovo; a former NDP MPP turned Minister, DiNovo is a well known advocate for LGBTQ+ rights.

Recipients will be announced at the Pride Awards Gala on August 10th. Ticket information can be found on Fierté Simcoe Pride’s website.
