South Simcoe Police say a 34-year old Barrie man attended their Bradford detatchment on Wednesday for fingerprinting and was recognized by another officer as a criminally prohibited driver.
Police say the man walked to the detachment from the nearby Sobeys store.
Suspecting he drove to the supermarket, officers followed him on foot to Sobeys after his fingerprints were completed.
"Officers observed the accused opening the front door of an SUV, which was found to be registered to the accused's company," police stated in a news release. "While police were checking Sobeys exterior security cameras, the accused left the immediate area on foot. Officers confirmed that the accused drove the same vehicle into the Sobeys parking lot, where it was still parked. Police searched the area and located the accused close by."
As a result, the SUV was seized for 45 days.
The accused was charged with the following:
- Operation of a vehicle while prohibited x2
- Breach of probation
- Drive no licence
- Fail to drive motor vehicle with ignition interlock device
