Queen’s Park urging everyone to have confidence in transit

The Ford Government wants everyone to know public transit is safe.

Premier Doug Ford was joined by Transportation Minister Caroline Mulroney in Whitby on Wednesday to highlight some of the many health and safety features GO Transit has put in place. The measures follow a previously announced safety guidance framework for all public transit systems to follow.

Measures include seat dividers, mandatory face coverings for staff and passengers, and hand sanitizing stations throughout. Many transit services, including that of Barrie Transit, have been following the guidelines since being released. “People across the province need safe and reliable transit to get where they need to go as the province gradually reopens,” said Minister Mulroney. “That’s why we are continuing to work with our partners to provide the information and support they need to continue to keep public transit systems safe. I want to thank our transit agencies for going above and beyond these past few months to protect riders and workers.”

Both the federal and provincial governments have previously committed up to $2 billion to improve health and safety within local transit systems.
