Remembrance Day: What’s Open and What’s Closed

As Ontario doesn't recognize the day as a stat holiday, only some services are affected

While Remembrance Day is recognized as a federal statutory holiday, not all provinces treat it as such. This includes Ontario.

CLOSED

  • Many banks
  • Government offices
  • No mail delivery
  • No garbage collection in Orillia (collection will be a day later for the remainder of the week
  • Due to the ongoing pandemic, there will be no public Remembrance Day ceremonies in Barrie

OPEN

  • LCBO and Beer stores
  • Grocery stores and malls
  • Regular garbage collection in Barrie
  • Barrie Transit will operate on a regular schedule – Veterans ride free of charge along with one companion all day on Remembrance Day
  • Orillia Transit will operate on a regular schedule – Veterans in uniform, or wearing campaign medals, ride free of charge along with one companion all day on Remembrance Day
  • LINX Transit will operate on a regular schedule
  • GO Transit will operate on a regular schedule
