The defending champions Rovers have had a cooler-than-expected start to the season (0W-1D-1L) having tied Vaughan away and losing their home opener 3-1 against a highly organized and committed Alliance FC. Saturday’s match day is the third game of a 22-game season. The Rovers Women are also 0W-1D-1L and sit 6th in the league standings. Woodbridge Women are one place behind the Rovers sitting 7th overall. Woodbridge Men have had a strong start to their 2024 campaign with a strong 1W-1D-0L record.
In other news, the Rovers have advanced to the 2nd round of the League1 Cup. The Round of 16 matchups will be played at home with the Men hosting Darby FC on May 14, and the women hosting St. Catharines on May 21st.
The League1 Cup is a tournament that features all L1O clubs from each of the three divisions, like England’s FA Cup. The knock-out competition runs concurrently with the regular season, with cup games usually taking place mid-week. This is the first year the Rovers have participated in the League1 Cup following the competition's hiatus from 2019 to 2023.
