The Simcoe County Rovers women’s team continues to dominate League1 Ontario, holding onto first place after a decisive 4-2 win over Waterloo United at home on Wednesday night.

Striker Ally Rowe wasted no time, scoring in the opening minute and again in the 32nd to bring her season tally to an impressive nine goals in nine matches. “A strong overall performance from the team, especially on the attacking side of the ball,” said head coach Zack Wilson. “We were dangerous in the final third and clinical when it mattered most.”

The Rovers responded quickly after Waterloo tied the game in the 25th minute. Jen Milligan, fresh off Team of the Week honours, scored just two minutes later, followed by Rowe’s second and a goal from Aliyah Gomes in the 37th. Waterloo’s Abby Kraemer added her second just before halftime, but the Rovers held firm in the second half to secure the win.

“It’s always special playing at home,” Wilson added. “A big shout out to the boys from Barrie Soccer Club who made the trip and brought some serious noise. They helped swing the momentum back our way.”

With a 7-1-1 record, the Rovers women remain in first place, with NDC and North Toronto close behind.

Rovers Men Rebound with Road Win in London

Meanwhile, the Rovers men’s squad bounced back from a tough loss to Oakville with a 2-0 win over London. Veteran winger Shawn Claude Lawson opened the scoring in the 9th minute, and Reshaun Wakes sealed the deal in the 85th.

“Massive midweek result after the disappointment on the weekend,” said head coach Doneil Henry. “Scoring two goals is great, but I’m really happy with our backline getting the clean sheet. Luke Green has anchored the defense all season.”

The win lifts the men to 3-3-3, good for fifth place and just five points off the top of the table.
