The Ontario government announced on Monday that Royal Victoria Regional Health (RVH) Centre in Barrie will be renovated and expanded to accommodate new critical care beds.

As well, the province is expanding RVH's off-site community dialysis program on Wellington Street with new, additional hemodialysis stations.

"The expansion of RVH's renal and critical care programs is one more way our government is connecting families across the Barrie region to the high-quality care they need, when they need it," said Andrea Khanjin, MPP for Barrie-Innisfil.

As a next step, the ministry is working with RVH to complete early planning and design for these projects. Once future planning is complete and the project is tendered and awarded, a construction schedule will be confirmed.

"Expanding access for critical care ensures that patients can be cared for in the community they call home," said Doug Downey, MPP for Barrie-Springwater-Oro-Medonte. "These expansions are helping eliminate long drive times and stressful waits for medical appointments. We remain dedicated to ensuring Ontarians have access to world-class-life-saving care they have come to expect."
