A Toronto man is up on charges after an elderly Bradford couple were fleeced out of some money by an aggressive phone scam.
Around 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, the seniors received a call from an unknown woman who threatened the victims with police action if they didn’t go to the bank and withdraw some cash. The couple complied and left the money outside their home in the Holland Street and Langford Boulevard area, as instructed by the caller. Police say a man picked up the cash and fled to a waiting vehicle.
South Simcoe Police say an exhausitve investigation commenced, involving the RCMP and policing authorities in Europe, which led them to an address in Toronto. A search warrant was executed on Wednesday and a 34-year-old man was taken into custody.
He faces charges including robbery, extortion, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offense. Police believe there are other victims out there.
