Barrie police have sounded the alarm after one of their officers received a text on their cellphone from someone claiming to be their kid.

The text starts off with "Hi mom," then the person claims their phone is broken and they are texting using the cashier's phone at the store because they had to get a new one.

The person posts a phone number and asks to call them ASAP.

The officer wasn't duped.

"Beware of any strange messages you receive," police posted to X on Wednesday.
