Schomberg drive-by shooting was targeted: YRP

Police say the victim was not the intended target

York Regional Police have released suspect sketches on Tuesday in connection with a shooting in Schomberg earlier this year that left a man with serious injuries.

On February 12, police say a 65-year-old man was walking his dog when he was shot multiple times on Centre Street between Rebellion Way and Church Street. The victim is going through a lengthy recovery process, but police say he will survive.

Initially, police thought the shooting was a spontaneous act after the victim gestured at the vehicle that sped past him. However, the investigation has since revealed that this was a targeted shooting, but the victim was not the intended target.

Police have released sketches of the two suspects who were in the vehicle and are appealing to the public to help find them.

The suspects were operating a white 2021 Lexus RX-350 with Ontario licence plate CXAK183. The vehicle was reported stolen in January from the area of The East Mall and Burnhamthorpe Drive in Toronto.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the York Regional Police Serious and Organized Crime Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext 6970.

Information can also be provided by calling Crime Stoppers.
