A second South Simcoe Police officer has died of injuries suffered Tuesday night while investigating a disturbance near 9th Line and 25th Sideroad.

The officers were called to a home just before 8 p.m.

Shots were fired, one of the officers and a citizen were pronounced dead last night; the second officer was taken to hospital in Toronto with critical injuries. South Simcoe Police advised just after 7 a.m. Wednesday morning that he, too, had succumbed to his injuries.

The Special Investigations Unit has been called in to determine the chain of events. We are awaiting a statement from them.

South Simcoe Police say they will issue a statement at 1 o'clock this afternoon.
