GO Transit shakes up train schedule on Barrie line due to winter storm

Environment Canada has projected a severe winter storm for tonight and into Thursday for much of southern Ontario, including Barrie, and GO Transit is adjusting its train schedule because.

Officials with GO Transit said in a release that the "modifications allow us to run trains as smoothly as possible while keeping our trains clear of snow and ice build-up."

For Barrie line customers, Thursday's schedule will include:   

  • The Allandale Waterfront GO 05:46 to 07:33 Union train is cancelled 
  • The Allandale Waterfront GO 06:46 to 08:33 Union train is cancelled 
  • The 17:23 Union to 19:11 Allandale Waterfront GO train is cancelled 
  • The 09:02 Allandale Waterfront GO to 10:49 Union will now begin at Bradford GO and will depart at 09:31 
  • The 09:54 Union to 11:37 Allandale Waterfront GO will not service stops between Newmarket GO to Allandale Waterfront GO 
  • The 14:01 Union to 15:44 Allandale Waterfront GO will not service stops between Newmarket GO to Allandale Waterfront GO 
  • The 22:01 Union to 23:44 Allandale Waterfront GO will not service stops between Newmarket GO to Allandale Waterfront GO 
  • The 13:08 Allandale Waterfront GO to 14:52 Union will not service stops between Allandale Waterfront GO to Newmarket GO 
  • The 21:10 Allandale Waterfront GO to 22:52 Union will not service stops between Allandale Waterfront GO to Newmarket GO 

GO Transit encourages users to plan ahead by using their trip planner

"While at a station, please listen for announcements and watch departure boards for any changes to your service," officials said.

"In all winter weather events, please be cautious on the platforms, take your time in stairwells, and be mindful of any wet floors inside the station buildings, trains, or buses," officials continued. "Whenever possible, try to park inside a parking structure to keep yourself and your vehicle out of the elements."
