Shoplifting call in Orillia results in drug and weapons charges against two women

Police say they seized what is believed to be fentanyl and meth

Two females from the Niagara area face a total of 12 criminal charges after Ontario Provincial Police responded to a report of individuals acting in a suspicious manner at a downtown Orillia business on Friday afternoon.

By the time officers arrived, the women were no longer there.

Later the same day, police responded to a Murphy Road business about two females shoplifting. Officers quickly arrived on scene and arrested the pair, who they identified as being suspects from the original call. Police later seized what is suspected to be fentanyl and meth, as well as two prohibited edged weapons.

A 46-year-old from St. Catharines and a 36-year-old from Niagara-on-the-Lake were held in custody for a bail hearing.
