Operators of short-term rentals in Tiny Township are going to have to cough up more cash.
Township councillors approved a $200 licence fee increase at their Wednesday meeting which brings the new fee to $1,750.
The Township said the increase will help recoup costs for inspections, administration, and enforcement for the licencing program.
“One of the goals of the short-term licensing program is to ensure that general taxpayers are not subsidizing the administration or enforcement of the program” said Mayor, David Evans. “Staff are spending more time on enforcement than projected. It is important that the licence fee reflects this so the program follows a cost recovery model and does not impact taxpayers”.
The Township allows up to 300 short-term rental licences to be issued annually.
Short-term operators were also reminded that they have until December 31 to renew their licences for approval so they can operate in 2024.
Renewal licence applications open on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023.
