The Township of Springwater has declared a Significant Weather Event, as of 4:30 p.m. on December 28, 2025, under Ontario’s Minimum Maintenance Standards for Municipal Highways (Ontario Regulation 239/02). This declaration has been issued because current and forecasted weather conditions are affecting roads and sidewalks that are maintained by the Township of Springwater.

During the Significant Weather Event, winter maintenance operations will continue; however, the Township may not be able to meet its usual maintenance timelines due to the volume and intensity of the winter event. As a result, it may take longer than normal to return roads and sidewalks to optimal conditions. Once the declaration is lifted, the standard timelines for road and sidewalk winter maintenance will resume.

Here are some reminders for Township of Springwater residents during the significant weather event:

  • The Township is asking residents to postpone non-essential travel. If you must drive, reduce your speed, increase following distance, and stay well back from snowplows and other winter maintenance vehicles. Please use caution on Township roads and sidewalks.
  • Overnight parking is not permitted on municipal roads (including unassumed roads) or parking lots between 2:00 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. from November 1 to March 31
  • Residents are asked to clear a small area at the end of their driveway for garbage and recycling carts and/or their Christmas tree, and to avoid placing these items on top of snowbanks.
  • Residents are also encouraged to keep a 72‑hour emergency kit that includes blankets, a flashlight, spare batteries, a battery‑powered or hand‑crank radio for updates, and written emergency contacts stored with the kit.

The Township will issue public notice, through its official communications channels, when this significant weather event has ended.
