Simcoe and Muskoka Among Municipalities Under Provincial Microscope

Two Advisors to Examine Eight Regional Municipalities in Total This Spring

The province is checking up on regional governments, including in Simcoe County.

The Ford government is reviewing the regional government model in the province, claiming it is to ensure these bodies are working efficiently and effectively.

Two advisors have been assigned to the task, and will examine eight regional municipalities including the County of Simcoe and District of Muskoka. York, Durham, Peel, Halton, Waterloo, Niagara, and Oxford County will also be reviewed.

It is expected the review will explore ways of making it easier for residents to access municipal services, cut red tape, save on costs, and make sure services are delivered effectively.

“Our government committed to improving the way regional government works and we will be looking at ways to make better use of taxpayers’ dollars and make it easier for residents and businesses to access important municipal services,” said Steve Clark, Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing.

The review is expected to begin in the Spring of this year.
