(UPDATE)

An extensive power outage in southeast Barrie is gradually being reduced.

There are still more than 1,100 hundred customers without hydro, down substantially from the more than 4,000 midday Monday morning.

Alectra has not said what caused the power outage, but according to their phone line, full restoration is expected around 2:30 p.m.

The outage has also knocked out traffic lights, so motorists should treat those intersections as four-way stops.
