South Simcoe Police Canine Unit helps arrest man after stolen vehicle recovered from Lake Simcoe
Tracked suspect to a nearby building
The South Simcoe Police Canine Unit was called out to track down a suspect after a vehicle was recovered from Lake Simcoe.
Officers were called early Tuesday to a marina on Shore Acres Drive.
The vehicle was partially submerged about 40 metres from shore when police arrived on scene. Officers quickly determined it had been stolen from Hanover.
The canine crew tracked a suspect to a nearby building that had been broken into. He was treated at the scene for a minor injury then taken to South Division for processing.
A 24-year-old Hanover man has been charged with:
- Possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000
- Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000
- Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Breach of probation
- Break and enter of a place with intent to commit and an indictable offence
- Obstruct peace officers
