What a recovery by South Simcoe Police.
Officers attended an Innisfil automotive business on May 5 to deal with a dispute about a vehicle. Police learned a Midland man found his vehicle that had been previously reported stolen at the business. A 25-year-old Innisfil man was arrested at the scene and charged with possession of stolen property, altering vehicle identification numbers and mischief.
A search warrant for the property was executed and police say they located an additional 21 vehicles totalling $400,000 that were allegedly stolen in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick.
Police say several vehicles were found to have alterations to their vehicle identification numbers. Investigators have been trying to reunite the owners with their vehicles, though several did not have insurance for various reasons.
On Tuesday, police say the suspect was found to be in breach of his release conditions and was arrested and held for bail.
An extra 80 charges were added in connection with the other vehicles that have been identified as stolen.
