Barrie Police say an 18-year-old was seriously injured around 9:42 p.m. on Tuesday.
The incident happened on the northside of Dunlop Street East, west of Owen Street.
Police say the male was injured after an incident involving a group of five or six people. After being transported to a local hospital he was airlifted to a Toronto area trauma centre. He is currently being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
Another male was hit with a blunt object and was not seriously injured.
According to police, a perimeter was established and officers conducted canine tracks. However, their efforts were unsuccessful in locating the suspects.
The investigation is ongoing and there have been no arrests.
