A Star Trek actress who made television history will have her remains launched into space.
Nichelle Nichols, who played Lieutenant Nyota Uhura on the original Star Trek series from 1966-1969, passed away last month at 89.
In honour of her iconic role, her remains will be heading to outer space on board an upcoming Celestis Enterprise Flight.

The flight is from Celestial Memorial Spaceflights, a company that offers memorial flights into outer space.
The company is allowing fans to send tribute messages to Nichols, which will be launched into deep space beside her.
Her son Kyle Johnson, issued a statement saying:
“My only regret is that I cannot share this eternal tribute standing beside my mother at the launch. I know she would be profoundly honoured for this unique experience and enthusiastically encourage all of her fans to join us vicariously by contributing your thoughts, affections, memories, inspired successes, dreams, and aspirations via email to be launched with her on this flight!”
Nichols has been described as a trailblazer who inspired millions of people as one of the first black women to be a prime-time television.
She went on to be instrumental in encouraging women of colour to join the space program.
