Barrie police are reminding motorists not to leave their vehicle running and unattended.

An example of what can happen occurred around 12:45 Friday morning.

Police say a person was in a store at a gas station located at Big Bay Point and Yonge Street and left their vehicle running, which was then stolen.

Soon after, officers received a call about a vehicle into a light pole nearby on Pine Drive.

The light standard was knocked over.

Police say a 16-year-old Barrie resident was arrested.

He has been charged with theft over $5,000.
