There's a buzz in the air as new and veteran participants of the Terry Fox Run gear up for this weekend's event.

The annual run and walk holds a special place in many people's hearts, including Robert Dwyer, who has been working tirelessly to raise funds on behalf of his late father, Will Dwyer.

Will was known as Barrie's Million Dollar man when, in 2019, he reached his longstanding goal of raising the large sum for the Terry Fox run.

Since passing, his family has continued fundraising and hopes schools will consider donating to the cause this year.

Robert says the Terry Fox Foundation of Ontario recently sent a letter to schools in Simcoe County, asking them to consider donating to Will's goal when they are fundraising.

"Last year, we had 12 schools do it on their own, and in 2019, we had seven or eight that wanted to do this," Dwyer explains.

He adds that donations have slowed down a bit but hopes things pick up as the day approaches, saying he sees contributions come in until December.

This year's Terry Fox Run in Barrie takes place Sunday, September 17 at Centennial Park, with registration starting at 8am.
