#TheFrontStepsProject: Boosting spirits and raising funds for the Barrie Food Bank
Barrie photographer asking for 5-minutes of your time
It began in Needham, Massachusetts.
Photographer Cara Soulia started taking pictures of families, on their porches, some in their pyjamas to boost spirits during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We’re in this unique time in history where there’s so many people home in their houses,” Soulia told NECN Boston. “People are working from home, their kids are home, and we’re all just together under our roofs. It’s such a unique time in our history and feels like it needs to be documented.”

She doesn’t charge for the portraits, but she does urge the families to make a contribution to Needham Community Council, which provides food and other essentials to people in need.
She has also encouraged photographers around the world to join the #TheFrontStepsProject.
Barrie photographer Louise Jones has accepted the invitation.

“For the next few weeks, I would love to capture a photo of your family on your front steps. It will take approximately 5 minutes, and I will shoot from your sidewalk or curb – an appropriately safe distance away. This is not a typical get-dressed-up-and-pose-for-the-photographer session. Come outside in your pyjamas and slippers. Be comfortable; be you. Include your pets! With your permission, I will post the images on Facebook and Instagram using the hashtag #TheFrontStepsProject.”
The following day, Jones will send you the digital file of your portrait.
“In exchange, I ask that you make a donation to the Barrie Food Bank, and reference #TheFrontStepsProject.”
Barrie Food Bank bracing for higher demand as COVID-19 impacts workplaces
Peter Sundborg at the Barrie Food Bank is thrilled, “What an amazing idea! The best way for people to donate to the food bank is online. It is safe and easy for everyone.”
The Food Bank is working with Joe’s No Frills to purchase needed products.
Jones is challenging other photographers to get involved for other charities.
