There’s A Petition to Fine People Calling 9-1-1 To Complain About Amber Alerts

Police State These Calls Are "Inappropriate"

A Petition started by Toronto resident Dalia Monacelli is gaining a lot of traction, calling for fines against people who call 9-1-1 to complain about amber alerts.

If you ask most people about the amber alerts, they will tell you it’s a small price to pay for the possible safety of a missing person, especially a missing child. However, there are a few people out there that decide to call 9-1-1 for the sole purpose of complaining that the amber alert woke them up, interrupted something they were doing, or some other reason that the OPP say only serves to tie up operators whose time could be better spent dealing with emergencies.

The petition can be found over on Change.org.

The OPP has previously stated that calls to 911 call centres following the issuing of an Amber Alert are “inappropriate.”
