Tip from citizen assists South Simcoe Police in impaired, fail to remain collision

A case of the public and police working together

A tag team effort between the public and police. A citizen called early Sunday morning to report a vehicle had struck the guardrail on Highway 400 and exited at County Road 89.

South Simcoe Police located the vehicle in a ditch off County Road 89 between the 10th Sideroad and the 400. Police spoke to the driver who was walking away from the scene. He was arrested for impaired driving and transported back to the police station where breath tests results were over the legal limit.

A 31-year-old Barrie man was charged with impaired driving and failure to stop at the scene of an accident. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle impounded for a week. There were no injuries.
