If you were hoping to see the end of lengthy delays for movies due, unfortunately, we're not out of the woods yet. Two upcoming Tom Cruise movies, Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7, had their release dates pushed well into 2022.
Originally set to release this year, Top Gun: Maverick has been pushed back to May 27, 2022. However, because Mission Impossible 7 was supposed to be Paramount's big Memorial Day release in the United States, it was pushed back to September 30, 2022, to ensure the two films weren't competing. Also, Paramount isn't the only studio delaying films with other big movies like Jackass Forever moving to a 2022 release day of Feb 4.
Top Gun: Maverick follows Pete "Maverick" Mitchell as he keeps pushing the envelope after years of service as one of the Navy's top aviators. He must soon confront the past while training a new squad of graduates for a dangerous mission that demands the ultimate sacrifice.
Mission Impossible 7's plot has been kept under wraps so far and there haven't been many details released to the public yet.
With case numbers in the world's biggest movie market rising to record levels, delays were inevitable, but it's still a bummer for those eagerly anticipating the return to a normal theatre experience.
