Town of Innisfil donating land to Habitat for Humanity

Construction on energy efficient home expected to begin in late 2021

The Town of Innisfil is donating land so affordable housing can be built upon it.

The Town is donating a parcel of land at 3122 25 Sideroad to Habitat for Humanity Huronia so the organization can build an environmentally-sustainable development there. It is expected the home will be built to the Passive House standard, meaning it will be 90 percent more energy efficient than standard code-built homes.

“This Council is proud to bring these forward-thinking, environmentally-sustainable affordable housing options that can be absolutely life-changing for residents who need assistance,” said Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin. “Especially during these trying times when we are experiencing an economic slowdown, affordable housing options like these will be key to helping many of our hardest-hit residents bounce back.”

The design of the project will have to go through discussion with neighbours and the public review process before further steps are taken. The Town hopes construction will begin in late 2021.
