Every year, nearly 5000 kids from Simcoe County are treated at SickKids hospital and on average, 289 beds are occupied every single day. With such a growing need, SickKids is building a brand new hospital and they need the help of monthly donors to do it!
Here are some of the reasons why SickKids is building a new hospital:
- Private rooms for everyone. So kids don’t have to bunk with potential pathogens. Current ward-style rooms will be replaced with private rooms, so patients don’t have roommates. Private rooms offer patients more safety and give families more dignity.
- Portable diagnostics. So equipment goes room-to-room, not patients. Portable diagnostic equipment, like ultrasound and x-ray machines, will visit the patient. So patients are exposed to fewer pathogens, whether it’s the coronavirus or the seasonal flu.
- An Emergency Department that delivers their best when the worst happens. Our ED needs to be able to expect the unexpected, like a pandemic, and meet the challenge. A new ED will have modular rooms that can become isolation units during an infectious-disease crisis.
- Rooms that seal infection. A new, even safer SickKids will have modern isolation rooms specially designed to contain airborne viruses and prevent cross-contamination as hospital staff move in and out. This is especially important for kids who have compromised immune systems because of their condition or treatment.
So, how are you tripling your impact? Well, an anonymous donor has pledged to match donations (twice over) until $3.5 million in gifts is reached. A monthly donation is the best way to ensure SickKids can deliver the best care to its patients each and every day by allowing them to count and plan for donations.
If you would like to make a donation (or become a monthly donor before December 31st to triple your impact), head over to the SickKids website.
